History
Sigma Omicron Zeta
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapter was chartered on March 24, 2002. Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapter became the ninth graduate chapter chartered in the metropolitan Atlanta area, and the first Zeta chapter to be chartered in the northeastern suburbs of Atlanta, serving Gwinnett County, Georgia.
The history of the chapter began when seven members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated met to discuss the feasibility of forming a chapter of the Sorority in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The consensus was that there was a need for a chapter in the area. At that meeting and two subsequent meetings, plans were laid out to charter a new chapter. On March 24, 2002, Zeta member Triumphant Bettye Shelling presided over the ceremony that chartered Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapter. The charter members included the following: Trenace C. Pyles, Triumphant H. Felicia Conway, Katie R. Mitchell, Natalie Williams, and Cornecia Harper.

Throughout the years since its inception, Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapter continues to fulfill its purpose in Gwinnett County. The chapter continues to carry on the tradition and root itself as a sisterhood that promotes scholarship and actively engages in community service and youth mentoring. Through partnerships with various organizations and agencies, we are implementing activities and providing services based on these targets so that Sigma Omicron Zeta will continue to make a significant difference in the lives of individuals and the community we serve.
